“One of the first photographs ever taken was in 1839 by an American photographer taking a picture of himself. This was perhaps history’s first selfie.”

The images were heart-wrenching. The whole world seemed to stop and watch as twenty young men returned home after being held hostage. You could see the mix of relief and joy on their faces.

I remember as a child, each morning I’d take a seat at my desk with a freshly sharpened pencil in hand. Seeing a clean blackboard, I eagerly anticipated the new lessons I would be taught that day. Each morning there was a “clean slate,” so to speak.

Our family recently celebrated the wedding of my son, Michael. It was a beautiful day -- full of happiness, laughter, and tears.

In our house we typically relate most things to music. Music keeps the motivation going. My kiddos aren’t always responsive to words but almost always responsive to song.

A “tongue-lashing” is a sharp reprimand or scolding. I’ve had a few memorable ones in my life.
